DescriptionAn original watercolor design depicting four scenes from the history of Mount Vernon, New York. From left to right: two Puritan settlers with American Indians, possibly members of the Siwanoy Nation; a family of early settlers with a log wall behind them; a family of early settlers near a log cabin; and students and a teacher near a modern school. Each picture presumably shows someone being taught. Written in pencil at the bottom: Designs for mural for Charles E. Nichols School Louise Brann 1934. The painting is covered by a plastic film.
Label TextThis study is for a mural for the auditorium of the Charles E. Nichols Junior High School in Mount Vernon, New York. The study was submitted to, and accepted by, the Civil Works Administration (CWA). Ultimately, artist Louise Brann created four mural panels for the auditorium. The mural was completed on May 1, 1934.
