DescriptionAn ornamental wrought iron ashtray featuring a simple, caricature-like sculpture of a seated dog. The dog, shaped from thin rods of iron, has a pointed snout and ears, a curved tail, and is wearing a loose collar around the neck. The front paws of the dog rest inside the circular ashtray which has a fluted edge. Stamped and etched on the underside of the ashtray is the maker’s information: MANUF’D BY / John Foster / PAT’D MAY 2, ’33 / D-47270.
Label TextJohn Foster of San Francisco, California patented the statuette design on this ashtray in 1933 (USD89752S).
