DescriptionA watercolor and pencil sketch on paper of a campanula-type flower with three butterflies on the leaves. The sketch is in the oval center of an embossed design of oak leaves and acorns with urns at each corner. The sketch is matted in a window mat with bronze gilded edges. Printed in the bottom margin of the mat is the artist's information: J.M.W. TURNER / 1824.
The sketch is glazed with acrylic and framed in a 7/8" wood frame with a gilt and reflective silver finish.
Label TextThis sketch is one of two J.M.W. Turner watercolors that Eleanor Roosevelt kept for sentimental reasons after Franklin Roosevelt's death because he had given them to her. She displayed them in her New York City apartment where they remained until her death in 1962.The sketch is glazed with acrylic and framed in a 7/8" wood frame with a gilt and reflective silver finish.

Custodial History NoteLent to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr. in 1963. It was donated as a bequest of FDR, Jr. to the Library in 1991.
