DescriptionAn original black and white cartoon. It depicts a large casket, covered with an American flag, resting at the apex of the world. Masses of people are seen descending upon the casket from four different directions. The artist's printed signature and date are in the lower right corner: MERGEN / APRIL 15, 1945. The cartoon is mounted within a mat, the bottom of which has the original ink caption: "MY FRIENDS".
Label TextThis cartoon appeared in the Miami Daily News three days after President Roosevelt's death. Eleanor Roosevelt later asked the artist, Anne Mergen, for the original artwork. Mergen sent it to Mrs. Roosevelt, who had it placed on display in the Roosevelt Library.Additional Details
