DescriptionAn unframed color print portraying, in a cartoon caricature style, “THE INAUGURATION OF FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT: AN HEROIC PANORAMA DEPICTING THE HIGH CEREMONY ON THE CAPTIOL PLAZA AT WASHINGTON ON MARCH 4TH, 1933.” Dotted with symbolic imagery, the scene shows the inaugural ceremony with FDR, Eleanor Roosevelt, and a group of others standing at the top of a set of stairs with the United States Capitol building in the background. At the foot of the stairs is a crowd of reporters, politicians, dignitaries, prominent figures, and military leaders. Additional spectators and uniformed police are visible in the back right. The artist's facsimile name is in the upper left corner: "COVARRUBIAS."

Roosevelt in February 1933 by Clare Boothe Brokaw (aka Clare Boothe Luce), Managing Editor of Vanity Fair magazine which was published by Condé Nast Publications. The cartoon appeared in the March 1933 issue of Vanity Fair.Below the inauguration scene is a numbered diagram identifying key figures in the scene, flanked by a key listing the names of those in the diagram.
