John Philip FalterAmerican illustrator, 1910 - 1982

Nebraska native John Falter studied art at the Kansas City Art Institute. During the Great Depression he illustrated covers for pulp magazines before finding success in commercial advertising. In 1943, Falter enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a boatswain’s mate. When his commander learned of his background he was commissioned as a “lieutenant with special art duties” and designed recruiting posters. During his long career, Falter created cover art and illustrations for national magazines, illustrated over 40 books, and worked as a portrait artist.
