Jon WhitcombAmerican illustrator and poster artist, 1906 - 1988

Oklahoma native Jon Whitcomb studied English at Ohio State University before finding work creating travel and theatrical posters. He later moved to New York and became a successful advertising artist and illustrator for national magazines. Whitcomb was best known for his glamorous depictions of women. During World War II, he served as a navy lieutenant—designing posters and working as a combat artist in the Pacific. After the war, Whitcomb returned to magazine illustrating and authored short stories and children’s books.
