Amos SewellAmerican, 1901 - 1983

A San Francisco native, Amos Sewell worked as a bank clerk while studying art at night at the California School of Fine Arts. In 1930, he moved to New York and studied at the Art Students League and the Grand Central School of Art. By the late 1930s he had established a successful career as an illustrator for advertising agencies and national magazines. During World War II, Sewell illustrated posters for the Treasury Department and the War Manpower Commission.
