Frederick (Fritz) SiebelAustrian-American illustrator, 1913 - 1991
Frederick (Fritz) Siebel was born in Austria and studied illustration and design at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna. He immigrated to America in 1936 and served in the Army during the war. In 1942, Siebel entered this poster in a competition to create an image illustrating the need to protect sensitive information. It was later printed and distributed by the OWI. After the war Siebel worked as an illustrator for magazines and advertising agencies and founded a graphic and package design company. In 1959 he began illustrating children’s books, including the first books in the Amelia Bedelia series.
