Artifact Collection: Ship Model Collection

This series contains models of ships collected by Franklin D. Roosevelt as an expression of his love for the sea. Many of the models in this series were purchased by Roosevelt. Models also were given to him by the public and by heads of state. A small number of models were given to the Library following Roosevelt's death in 1945. Models include ships from all over the world, both maritime and naval, and span from the 16th century through World War II. Included among the models is a ca. 1818 model of the USS Constitution which Roosevelt believed to be the best model in his collection.
