Physical DescriptionA pair of royal blue and orange fabric suspenders, size "regular", with flat leather ends. The gilt metal adjusters on the front of each strap have a blue and orange painted background with a relief image of the Trylon and Perisphere and the words: NEW YORK / WORLD'S FAIR / 1939.
The suspenders are mounted on a white cardboard backer and placed in a white cardboard folder. Printed on the face of the folder, in blue and orange, is an image of the Trylon and Perisphere and the words: NEW YORK / WORLD'S FAIR / 1939 / SMART • STURDY • COMFORTABLE. Stamped in black ink on the back of the folder: BRACE CONTENT / Rayon and Cotton.
Historical NoteThe 1939 New York World's Fair, located in Flushing Meadows, New York, opened on April 30, 1939 and closed on October 27, 1940. President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the opening speech in person which was televised throughout the Fair. His address was the first time that a president appeared on television.The suspenders are mounted on a white cardboard backer and placed in a white cardboard folder.
