Physical DescriptionA charcoal sketch, with gouache highlights, of Eleanor Roosevelt. Done on ecru-colored paper, the three-quarter portrait depicts her seated, turned slightly to the proper left, her hands working on a piece of knitting. Mrs. Roosevelt is wearing a dress with long sleeves and a dark collar. Her name is written in pencil (likely her own original signature) directly below the portrait: Eleanor Roosevelt.
Beneath the drawn box bordering the portrait, the artist has signed, dated, and inscribed the artwork in the lower left: For Governor Roosevelt / with congratulations and admiration / S. J. Woolf / Nov. 9 - 1932.
