Physical DescriptionAn unused cover with a multi-colored World War II patriotic cachet designed, copyrighted, and published by Jacques Minkus, New York, NY, 1942. The illustrated cachet consists of a large red "V" from which rises a hand holding a flaming torch. Blue text arched above the torch, and white text in a banner intersecting the "V", reads: DO YOUR SHARE FOR FREEDOM / AND VICTORY WILL BE OURS. Below the banner is Morse code for "V" in blue: • • • − in blue.
Historical NoteThis envelope is one in a group of twenty covers (MO 1982.34.13-32) with World War II patriotic cachets designed and published by Jacques Minkus. A promotor of philately, Jacques Minkus opened stamp counters in various department stores throughout the country. Not only did the counters sell stamps, they also carried cacheted covers and albums designed by Minkus, as well as stamp catalogues published by him.Additional Details
