Physical DescriptionA cream-colored Panama hat, size 7¼. The hat is made from woven straw with an optimo (raised) crown and a 3/4" black grosgrain hat band. The interior of the hat is unlined but has a cream-colored silk sweatband stitched around the circumference. The initials "FDR" are perforated on one part of the sweatband, while the blocker’s name is debossed in gilt lettering on another part: THE Fifth Avenue Blockers / 210 FIFTH AVENUE / NEW YORK. Several notations are written in pencil on the interior of the hat beneath the sweatband: FDR / 7¼ / 1331-5. Also on the hat beneath the sweatband is a partly-illegible purple ink stamp that may read in part "MONTECRISTI".
