Physical DescriptionA black and white etching and aquatint print of the December 12, 1782 conflict between the British ship HMS MEDIATOR and the French ships EUGENE and MENAGERE. Pictured at center, the MEDIATOR is seen firing at the MENAGERE on the right while the EUGENE is seen on the left. Several other sailing ships - the French ship DAUPHIN ROYAL, the American ship ALEXANDER, and an unamed brig are visible in the background. The ships are identified below the image, along with the number of guns and men, as well as the information that the MENAGERE and the ALEXANDER were taken during the action.

Also below the image is a description of the scene: A View of His Majesty's Ship MEDIATOR of 44 Guns commanded by the Right Honble. Captn. James Luttrell (having attacked & dispersed / a Squadron of Five Sail of French & American Ships of War.) In Chase of the Menagere; The Eugene hauling her Wind on the approach of the Mediator. / The Alexander in the distance with a View of the two Sail which first escaped.
