Physical Descriptiona) A silver-colored medal consisting of a top bar attached to the medal with two strands of metal links. The top bar is inscribed: G.S.A.A. Inscribed at the center obverse of the medal: 1897 / III / RUN. HIGH KICK. /1ST / PRIZE. The maker's mark is on the reverse: J. Harriott / Boston.

b) A simple black box in which the medal came (stored separately).
Historical NoteFDR was not a notable athlete at the Groton School, the boarding school he attended from 1896-1900. But he excelled in one unusual sport—the running high kick. He was awarded this medal in 1897. It is on display in the EDUCATION exhibit in the Museum’s FOUNDATIONS OF A PUBLIC LIFE gallery.
