Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the dedication of the Tillamook County Airport in the state of Oregon. The white air mail envelope is completely bordered with images of planes and red and blue stars and repetitive wording that reads: AIRPORT DEDICATION. On the left side of the envelope is a blue cachet featuring the illustration of a wheel of cheese encircled by text that reads: THE LAND OF CHEESE, TREES / AND OCEAN BREEZE. Above and below the illustration is additional text that reads: Specially Flown / Tillamook County Airport / Dedication - June 22, 1941 / TILLAMOOK, OREGON / Sponsored by / Tillamook County Junior Chamber of Commerce / R. E. Loomis [original ink signature] / Chairman Airport Com.

The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in ink): Franklin D Roosevelt. / President of the U.S.A. / Washington D.C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope are a U.S. 1940 green 1¢ Defense postage stamp (Scott 899), a U.S. 1940 red 2¢ Defense postage stamp (Scott 900), and a U.S. 1940 purple 3¢ Defense postage stamp (Scott 901). The envelope is postmarked Tillamook, Oregon, June 22, 1941.

The return address is handwritten on the reverse: R. E. Loomis / Tillamook, Ore. Also on the reverse, a purple ink stamped message reads: This philatelic item is from the personal / stamp collection of the late President / Franklin Delano Roosevelt. / Jacques Minkus Gimbels Stamp Depts. / New York-Philadelphia. In the lower right corner, the number "AN-131" is written in pencil, the circled number "R37" is written in pencil, and "MAH" is stamped in red.
Historical NoteFranklin Roosevelt was an avid, lifelong stamp collector who gathered over 1.2 million stamps into his personal collection during the course of his life. He began collecting stamps at the age of eight at the suggestion of his mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, who passed on her collection to him.

After FDR's death, his personal stamp collection, including this stamp cover, was sold at public auction in 1946 in accordance with his wishes.
