Physical DescriptionA red and white beaded bookmark with Eleanor Roosevelt’s initials. The bookmark consists of a vertical length of fringed red ribbon to the center of which has been sewn a rectangle of white beads outlined with a border of red beads. On the field of white beads are the letters "E R" in red beads.
Historical NoteRita Betty Clemens of Annapolis, Maryland made this personalized bookmark and sent it to Eleanor Roosevelt in May 1938. With the bookmark came a May 22, 1938 letter from Rita to Mrs. Eleanor that read: "Dear Mrs. Roosevelt, I am enclosing as a little rememberance [sic], a bookmark, which I made to let you know how much I appreciated your shaking hands with me at the 'Girl Scout Little House’ in Washington at the opening of Better Homes Week'. Wishing you success in your many undertakings, Sincerely, Rita B. Clemens (Gift Scout Troop 7 - Annapolis)."Additional Details
