Physical Descriptiona) A tooled leather dog collar with a brass buckle and hardware. Tooled into the brown leather collar is the name "FALA" flanked by flower and leaf designs. A small anchor shape is pressed into the underside of the metal buckle.

b) A small maker's card for The Florida Studio of Decoration and Design accompanies the collar.
Historical NoteThis collar was sent to President Roosevelt’s dog, Fala, in September 1942 by Carolyn Jennings of The Florida Studio of Decoration and Design, New York, NY.

FDR had a lifelong affection for pets. The best known was Fala, a Scottish terrier given to him by his distant cousin, Margaret “Daisy” Suckley, in 1940. During World War II, Fala became Roosevelt’s constant companion and the most famous dog in America.
