Physical DescriptionA Spanish language poster, titled "EL NUEVO ORDEN . . . DEL EJE" [The New Order . . . The Axis], promoting inter-American solidarity during World War II. Done in shades of yellow, green, black, and red, the poster features a large grotesque graphic illustration of the profile of a heavyset male’s bald head. Drool is dripping from the mouth which has reddened lips and barred teeth. Hanging around the neck of the figure is a Nazi swastika military decoration suspended from a blue ribbon. The artist’s facsimile signature is incorporated into the left side of the artwork: “E. McKnight Kauffer.”
Printed in small text along the bottom of the poster: "Publicado por El Coordinador de Asuntos Interamericanos, Washington, E. U. A."
Historical NotePresident Roosevelt created the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs during World War II to counter Italian and German propaganda in Latin America and promote political, economic, and cultural ties with the United States.
