The larger sail has the number "5" and "N5" imprinted in black on each side. The model sits unfixed in a wooden cradle base.
Historical NoteThis model of the yacht, SOLSTREIF, was designed and constructed by Sam O. Berge, a Norwegian model maker who won the world model yacht championship Class A in 1935 and 1937. Berge gave this model to his brother, Arnold, who worked at Val-Kill Industries in Hyde Park, New York. Arnold Berge presented it to President Roosevelt during a Val-Kill picnic on September 11, 1935. Roosevelt had observed Arnold sailing the model on the lake at Val-Kill and had admired it.
