Physical DescriptionA Portuguese language poster, titled “AS AMÉRICAS UNIDAS PARA A VITÓRIA E O PROGRESSO" [The Americas United for Victory and Progress], promoting inter-American solidarity during World War II. The poster features a large illustration depicting a U.S. and a Latin American soldier shaking hands over a seated woman and two children. The group is set against the background of a riverfront community featuring factories, a church, military vehicles, and ships on the river. Overhead, the global image of the Americas is visible, backed by clouds from which military equipment and aircraft emerge.
The border of the poster includes a marker for each month of the year. Next to each monthly marker are illustrated portraits of the saints whose feast days fall within that month.

Historical NotePresident Roosevelt created the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs during World War II to counter Italian and German propaganda in Latin America and promote political, economic, and cultural ties with the United States. He appointed Nelson Rockefeller as the Coordinator. This prize-winning poster, which won first place in a competition based on themes of unity, was issued by the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs.Additional DetailsThe border of the poster includes a marker for each month of the year.
