Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. Army conservation poster titled “Vital War Materials from Salvaged KITCHEN WASTE.” The red, white, and black poster features a text box with a list of five types of waste to be salvaged along with an explanation or instruction for each: “BONES AND MEAT TRIMMINGS / COOKED GREASE / TRAP GREASE / EDIBLE GARBAGE / INEDIBLE WASTE”. To the left of the list are three simple illustrations labeled “EXPLOSIVES,” “MEDICAL SUPPLIES,” and “ANIMAL FOOD” showing how salvaged kitchen waste is used for the war effort. Along the bottom of the poster are five illustrated metal trash bins of varying sizes, each labeled with one of the five types of salvageable waste. A large arrow pointing to the trash bins has text instructing: “Keep 'Em Separate / Keep 'Em Clean.”

Along the bottom margin of the poster is the U.S. Army Conservation Program “SAVE” logo and small text that reads: “U. S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1944 588162 / THIS POSTER WILL BE DISPLAYED IN KITCHENS ONLY / ARMY CONSERVATION PROJECT NO. 91-P-15.”
