Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. Army production poster titled “THE AVENGER'S SHADOW.” The black and white poster features a drawn illustration of a Japanese soldier holding a smoking gun, standing over a fallen man labeled "U.S. PILOT," with a Japanese pagoda visible in the distance. Next to the soldier, a wall displays an enormous, looming profile shadow of a helmeted American miner with the words “MORE METAL FOR U.S. PLANES TANKS GUNS” on the image. The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower right of the artwork: “ROLLIN KIRBY.”
