Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. conservation poster titled “WHEN YOU'RE FIGHTING FIRE YOU'RE NOT LOGGING." The orange, green, and white poster features a woodcut-style illustration of a lumberjack standing on a stump, an axe slung over his shoulder. Beside him is a felled and cut tree. In the background, smoke from a forest fire rises from a tree-lined hill. Text below the illustration states: “9 OUT OF 10 FIRES CAN BE PREVENTED." The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower right corner of the illustration: "H. L. GIFFORD – 44."
