Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. conservation poster. The color poster features a painted illustration depicting a farmer plowing a firebreak in a large clearing. A pile of burning branches is being tended to inside the plowed ring. Additional piles of branches from felled trees await burning both inside and outside the firebreak. The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower right corner of the illustration: “John Vickery.” Text below the illustration instructs: “PLOW AROUND TO PREVENT WOODS FIRES / SEE YOUR FIRE WARDEN BEFORE BURNING."

Small text in the bottom margin of the poster reads: “United States Department of the Interior / U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE: 1945—O-661358 / Bureau of Land Management."
