Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. Army conservation poster. The color poster features a graphic illustration of a dull brown leather service boot. Hanging above it is a framed picture of the same boot, but polished and shiny. Text on the poster states: “A FANCY SHINE MAKES A PRETTY PICTURE BUT DUBBING MAKES SHOES LAST / IT MAKES YOUR SHOES WEAR LONGER / KEEPS YOUR FEET DRY AND COMFORTABLE.” The artist’s facsimile signature is below the main image “hill.”
Along the bottom of the poster is the U.S. Army Conservation Program “SAVE” logo and small text that reads: “U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1943—O-561136 / ARMY CONSERVATION PROJECT No. 27-Q-6.”
Printed on the reverse side of the poster are instructions for posting and distribution.
