Clutched in the soldier's right hand are BONDS FOR VICTORY, and in his left hand he is holding miniature caricature images of Hideki Tojo and Adolf Hitler. Gray text, on a black background, at the bottom of the poster reads: BUY WAR BONDS. The sculpture is by Jack Lambert. Additional small text in the bottom margin reads: U. S. Government Printing Office : 1942-O-460025 DSS-427.
Historical NoteA gifted sculptor, Jack Lambert created some of his cartoons by molding a figure in clay, photographing it, and having an engraver produce a halftone reproduction. Lambert’s sculpted figure made this poster a distinctive contribution to the Treasury Department’s war bond campaign.Additional Details
