Physical DescriptionA red, white, and blue campaign poster pitting 1940 presidential candidates Franklin D. Roosevelt and Wendell L. Willkie against each other through books. The upper half of the white poster features blue halftone photographic portraits of FDR (left) and Willkie (right) with blue and red text that reads: “THE GREAT DEBATE / ROOSEVELT vs. WILLKIE.”
The lower half of the poster has illustrations of two 1940 books put out by the National Home Library Foundation as part of the General Welfare Series: “Our Democracy in Action: The Philosophy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, as found in his speeches, messages and other public papers,” and “Free Enterprise: The Philosophy of Wendell L. Willkie as found in his speeches, messages and other papers.” The books are divided by the words: “Price, 50 Cents Each / On Sale Here.”
The poster has a cardboard easel back.
