Physical DescriptionA model of the SS NORMANDIE, a steam ship ocean liner. The ship has a white, black, red, and brown painted hull, three smokestacks, and two masts. American and French flags are seen flying from the ship. The model is mounted to a wood base and covered with a glass and metal bonnet. A plate mounted on the base is inscribed: MODELES EN REDUCTION / J. MONTERA / 20 RUE PAUL STRAUSS / LA COURNEUVE.
Historical NoteThis model of the SS NORMANDIE was made by J. Montera of La Courneuve, France. President Roosevelt displayed the model in a guest bedroom in the White House.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on November 27, 1941. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
