Physical DescriptionA model of the SS NORMANDIE, a steam ship ocean liner. The ship has a white, black, red, and brown painted hull, three smokestacks, and two masts. American and French flags are seen flying from the ship. The model is mounted to a wood base and covered with a glass and metal bonnet. A plate mounted on the base is inscribed: MODELES EN REDUCTION / J. MONTERA / 20 RUE PAUL STRAUSS / LA COURNEUVE.
Historical NoteThis model of the SS NORMANDIE was made by J. Montera of La Courneuve, France. President Roosevelt displayed the model in a guest bedroom in the White House.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on November 27, 1941. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
