Shown under full sail in a heavy sea, the ship is flying a series of British nautical flags at the stern. A lighthouse, set atop a rock jutting up from the sea, is visible in the distance on the left. The title of the painting is written in paint at the bottom center: Record C.E. McNutt Master.
