Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. Army production poster titled “Who said we were soft?” The black and white poster features a drawn illustration of a helmeted American miner pointing his left hand at a startled Japanese soldier (possibly Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo) and telling him, “TAKE A GOOD LOOK – YOU SON OF A SETTING SUN!” With his other hand, the miner points to a line graph labeled “U.S. METAL PRODUCTION —” showing a climbing line labeled “TODAY” moving toward the “VICTORY” goal. The artist’s facsimile signature is in the lower right of the artwork: “ROLLIN KIRBY.”
