Physical DescriptionA cast metal still bank. The bank consists of bronze-painted bust of Franklin D. Roosevelt with a coin slot at the rear below the neck. The bust sits on a green-painted base on the front of which is the text: NEW DEAL / F D ROOSEVELT. The access door on the underside is missing. Stamped into the metal on the underside of the base: KENTONTOYS.
Historical NoteFranklin Roosevelt loomed large in American popular culture. Elected to four terms as America’s president, he became a familiar presence on the radio and in newspapers, magazines, and newsreels. Inevitably, his well-known likeness appeared on products such as this still bank. It is on display in the ROOSEVELT IN POP CULTURE exhibit in the Museum’s NEW DEAL gallery.
