Physical DescriptionA red, skived vegetable tanned leather box with text embossed in gold on the top: F.D.R. / CHRISTMAS 1940. The interior of the box has a white silk satin lid lining with the Cartier mark, and a gold silk velvet base lining with an impression for a magnifying glass. The box has a copper alloy closure. On the underside of the box is an adhesive auction: No. 45 / COLLECTION OF / PRESIDENT & MRS. FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT.
Historical NoteThis leather box once held a Cartier magnifying glass. The box is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.
