Physical DescriptionA World War II U.S. conservation poster. The black, white, and red poster features a graphic illustration of a man using an axe to chop at the base of a tall evergreen tree. To the right of the tree is a large text box with words of advice: “THE EXPERT WOODSMAN TAKES NO CHANCES WITH FIRES! / ★ He keeps mufflers and spark arresters safe / ★ He keeps fire-fighting tools ready / ★ He follows safe-smoking and slash-burning rules / ★ He helps keep production up."
In the lower right corner of the illustration is a miniature black and white variation of a 1943 poster featuring caricature portraits of Adolf Hitler and Hideki Tojo against the backdrop of a blazing forest fire. Text on the image reads: “OUR CARELESSNESS / Their Secret Weapon / PREVENT FOREST FIRES.”
