Physical DescriptionA small, sterling silver Campobello Golf Club loving cup trophy. The two-handled cup has decorative beading, leaf scrollwork on the front, and a gold plated interior. Engraved text on the front reads: GOLF PRIZE / Campobello. / 1895. Engraved text on the reverse reads: Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Maker's marks on the underside of the base (a lion, an anchor, and "G") indicate the trophy was made by Gorham Silver. Additional information stamped into the underside of the base reads: STERLING / 175M.
Historical NoteAs a youth, FDR participated in a variety of sports, golf being one of his favorites. He was an excellent golfer and won a number of trophies, including this 1895 Campobello trophy.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 6, 1942. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
