Historical NoteEleanor Roosevelt was often seen wearing a fleur-de-lis brooch. She was particularly fond of a fleur-de-lis brooch that had been worn by both her grandmother and mother before her, and for a time she had a small watch FDR gave her as a wedding gift hanging from the brooch. When that brooch was stolen in 1948, Mrs. Roosevelt had this brooch made as a replacement piece and wore it frequently. The reverse side of the brooch has a horizontal bar pin with catch (the catch has a "14K" mark), as well as a small hinged loop at the top and a vertical hook at the bottom.
