Physical DescriptionA hanging sanctuary lamp made of silver with a removable red glass votive container for the candle. Three chains are attached at the top of the lamp and meet at a ring to allow for hanging. There is a flat, unadorned area on one side of the bowl of the lamp, possibly meant for an inscription. A maker's hallmark of a tree within a circle are found on the side, possibly indicating it was made by John Linwood of Birmingham, England.
Historical NoteThis lamp was used by Sara Roosevelt, FDR's mother. It is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 10, 1942. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
