The cover of the two-piece orange cardboard box has the title and description of the puzzle: The Chopped-Up Monkey. / A PUZZLE FOR CHILDREN. / This Monkey had the misfortune to fall / from a barrel into a Chopping Tray, and / get very much cut up. He now wants / you to pick him up and put him together. The publisher's information is printed along the bottom: PUBLISHED BY / ADAMS & CO., 21 BROMFIELD STREET, BOSTON. / Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1866, By ADAMS & Co., in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the District of Mass.

An adhesive sticker on the bottom of the box indicates it was originally sold by A. W. Richardson, Druggist & Apothecary, Medway Village, Massachusetts.

The box contains 14 yellow puzzle pieces which, when put together, form a complete illustration of a large money sitting on a barrel.
Historical NoteThis puzzle is part of a collection of 19th century games designed for the amuseument and instruction of children (MO 2007.858a-r) purchased by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 for $97.50. The games, which were found together in the attic of an old house in Massachusetts, were put up for sale as a collection by The American Autograph Shop in Merion Station, Pennsylvania.
