Physical DescriptionA large, glazed ceramic handled beer pitcher with a brown spatter finish. On the side of the pitcher is a raised caricature portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt. On the opposite side of the pitcher is the slogan: HAPPY DAYS / ARE HERE / AGAIN. Inscribed on the underside of the pitcher: STANGL / 1647-1.

The pitcher is part of a seven-piece beer set (MO 2009.19.1.1-7).
Historical NoteIn 1934, the Stangl Pottery Company produced a ceramic beer serving set to salute the repeal of Prohibition. Each piece in the set features a caricature of a prominent Democrat. This pitcher displays a jaunty FDR and the words “Happy Days Are Here Again”— the title of his 1932 campaign song. It is on display in the BEER RETURNS! exhibit in the Museum’s NEW DEAL gallery.
