Physical DescriptionAn oil on canvas painting of four small children enjoying the outdoors. The children - three girls and a boy - are grouped together in the foreground. A girl on the left places a crown of flowers on the head of another girl in the center, while the boy on the right offers up a sprig of flowers. The third girl, on the far right, is looking towards the viewer of the painting. The children are seated within a landscape scene, the majority of which is visible behind them in the form of trees and hills. The painting is signed and dated by the artist in the lower left: J. T. Peele, 1853.

The painting is framed in a 2½" gilt wood frame. On the reverse is a framer's sticker for D. E. Butler of New York, New York, order # 19544.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 15, 1942. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
