Cigarette Box with Matches and Cigarettes

Physical Descriptiona) A vegetable-tanned leather box with stitched construction. The box is hinged along the backside of the lid. The top of the lid is stamped with a gilded monogram: F.D.R. Impressed on the underside of the box: MADE IN AUSTRIA. The interior of the box has a wood (possibly cedar) insert with four divided sections. There is also a wood panel insert for the interior of the lid.

Stored Inside the box are:
b) A box of matches by The Diamond Match Co. for The Pullman Company, with 43 matches.
c) A pack of Peterson's Cigarettes, by the Peterson's Tobacco Corp., with five remaining cigarettes.
Historical NoteFranklin Roosevelt kept this box on his desk in his private study at the Roosevelt Library. It is currently on loan to the White House, where it is displayed in the Oval Office.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
