Physical DescriptionA small wooden model of a whale boat. It includes four oars that can be attached to the sides of the boat and a loose spear. On each side of the bow is the name of the ship: NRA. The model is affixed to matching wood stand. The interior of the hull is lined in purple velvet. Inscribed on the underside of the model in gilt paint: Wishing you a Happy Birthday and a lot / of cooperation and reelection / by C. W. Van Dusen, Auburn, Ind. Jan 30, 1934. / Desk Pintray. An adhesive sticker with typed text is attached to the bottom: B-29-15.
Historical NoteThis model was made by Curtis W. van Dusen of Auburn, Indiana. The initials NRA refer to the National Recovery Administration, a New Deal agency created in 1933. The model was presented to President Roosevelt by Mr. van Dusen as a birthday gift (to be used as a pin tray) in 1934.Additional Details
