Physical Descriptiona) A Seth Thomas eight-day mantel strike clock in a ship's wheel design. The clock has pendulum movement. The face of clock has three winding holes and is marked: SETH THOMAS / MADE IN U.S.A. The protective glass over the face is hinged on the left side. The clock mechanism can be accessed through a door in the back. Stapled to the interior of the rear door is an information card that includes the guarantee and instructions for the clock.

Historical NoteThis mantel clock was presented to President Roosevelt as a Christmas gift in 1942 by Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes. It is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.b) A brass winding key for the clock.

Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 12, 1943. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
