Physical DescriptionA clock in the shape of a pillar of white marble mounted on a marble base and surmounted by a gilt copper alloy eagle. The clock is at the center of the pillar and has a white enamel coated steel face. As it works, the clock move up and down a rod attached to the pillar. Etched in marble on the reverse of the base: A. HAMBURGER / H. WINDSOR, N.Y. An adhesive sticker on the underside of the base has the typed text: Aladar Hamburger. The base of the pillar clock is supported by four brass feet.
Historical NoteThis pillar clock was presented to Franklin Roosevelt by the maker, New York City watchmaker Aladar Hamburger. It is on display in FDR'S PRIVATE STUDY in the Permanent Exhibit.
