Physical DescriptionA small metal caricature figurine of Franklin D. Roosevelt made from an artillery shell. Pieces of copper and metal adhered to the shell form the face, eyeglasses, cigarette holder, and hat. The figurine is mounted to a wooden base along the back edge of which are the names of the makers written in pencil: Dr. Bernie Cooper + Steve Jancer.
Historical NoteDr. Bernard Cooper of Cleveland, Ohio fashioned this comic figurine, and one of Winston Churchill (see MO 1944.33.11b), from scrap metal and sent them to President Roosevelt in July 1943 as a gift. Additional Details
Custodial History NoteDeposited at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum by Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 24, 1943. It was donated as a bequest of FDR to the Library in 1947.
