Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the 1936 South American Cruise of the U.S. Navy cruiser, USS CHICAGO (CA-29). On the left side of the envelope is a gold colored tropical-themed thermographic cachet featuring an illustration of a beach and the ocean with planes visible in the sky and ships in the water. Set into the bottom of the illustration is a small sepia tone photographic snapshot of the USS CHICAGO. Text above and below the illustration reads: South American Cruise 1936 / U. S. S. CHICAGO / Ports Visited Republic Panama Valparaiso, Chile.

The envelope is addressed to (typed): President / Franklin D. Roosevelt / White House / Washington, D. C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1933 violet 3¢ Century of Progress Issue stamp (Scott 729). The envelope is postmarked U.S.S. CHICAGO, May 20, 1936, with an "ACROSS THE / EQUATOR" cancellation.

The return address is ink stamped in black on the reverse of the envelope: STAMPS, COINS, CURIOS & ANTIQUE SHOP / W. G. CROSBY, U. S. NAVY RETIRED.
