Physical DescriptionA stamp cover commemorating the February 25, 1937 christening of the U.S. Navy destroyer, USS CRAVEN (DD-382]. On the left side of the envelope is a stamped blue ink cachet consisting of an illustration of a champagne bottle with an image of a ship launching on the bottle label. Text on the bottle reads: U. S. / C / NAVY / LAUNCHING / “I CHRISTEN THEE” / USS CRAVEN / DD 382. A black band with white text that crosses over the lower part of the bottle has the words “QUINCY, MASS.” written on it.
The envelope is addressed to (handwritten in red and blue ink): USS-CRAVEN [stamped] / Hon. Franklin D. Roosevelt / Washington / D. C. Adhered in the upper right corner of the envelope is a U.S. 1930 brown 1½¢ Warren G. Harding stamp (Scott 684). The envelope is postmarked Quincy, Massachusetts [date not visible].
The return address is ink stamped in blue on the reverse of the envelope: S. E. HUTNICK, M. D. / 5933 LANSDOWNE AVENUE / WEST PHILA., PA.
