Physical DescriptionA gold folding lorgnette with a raised iris design on one side of handle. On the other side of the handle is the monogram for Anna Livingston Hall: A.L.H. Stamped along the side of the handle: 14k. A small latch on one side of handle releases the spectacles which are hinged on one end with a connection to the handle. The spectacles themselves are also hinged at the center to allow for folding and storing within the handle.
Historical NoteEight-year-old Eleanor Roosevelt inherited this lorgnette when her mother, Anna Livingston Hall Roosevelt, died in 1892. It is on display in the ELEANOR ROOSEVELT exhibit in the Museum’s FOUNDATIONS OF A PUBLIC LIFE gallery.Additional Details
