Physical DescriptionAn original profile caricature of Mary Lord drawn in black ink. Consisting of Mary's head and neck, the left-facing portrait shows her with a hat on her head. The artist’s initials are signed in blue pencil along the right side of the caricature: BG. Written in pencil below the portrait: Mrs Oswald B. Lord / (Human Right Comm. / Succ. To Eleanor R).
The artist’s information is stamped in black ink on the reverse: BERNARD GOLDEN / 66 MORTON STREET / NEW YORK 14 / WATKINS 4-6328.
Historical NoteThis caricature of Mary Lord was sent to Eleanor Roosevelt in 1958 by the artist, Bernard Golden, of New York, NY. Mary Stinson Pillsbury Lord (1904-1978) was Eleanor Roosevelt’s successor as the U.S. representative to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. Appointed by President Eisenhower, Mary held the position from 1953-1961.The artist’s information is stamped in black ink on the reverse: BERNARD GOLDEN / 66 MORTON STREET / NEW YORK 14 / WATKINS 4-6328.
